Hooray! The weekend's here!

I can't tell you all how glad I am that it is Friday! Even tho this was a holiday week I had a four day work week rather than my usual three day. The upside of it was that Monday was a double time holiday so I can't feel too sorry for myself. Besides I have to get used to it...I decided that I need to work an extra day each pay period, at least until I get a few bills paid off. Sure am starting to notice the crunch of the increased gas prices. I can live with the choice to drive a car that isn't so gas efficient and to drive to work solo...but everything else that is going up due to gas prices...food and services...is starting to add up!

Since I joined stashbusters and really started looking at my stash, I've become acutely aware of how much I really do have....and I haven't even pulled everything out for accounting...yet. For my new year's resolution I did start keeping track of my fabric usage, purchases and time spent sewing (check out sidebar). It's been an eye opener! I don't nearly accomplish as much as I think I can...I don't know how I got so out of touch with what I could do???

The month of May is a first...I didn't buy any fabric! ZERO! ZIP! I don't think I've every gone a month without a fabric purchase since I got into quilting. I can't even think of anything I want. The very best news is that I haven't lost my desire for quilting without buying new stuff. Bonnie's OC mystery has me enthused for using my stash! My Carolina Crossroads may be one of the most interesting quilts I've ever made...and it came entirely from stash! HURRAY! If I ,can continue making only necessary purchases of fabric I think there is hope for me getting my finances in order...and who knows, maybe even my clutter and my weight! I swear all of those are related...maybe I'll explore that another time.

Update on OC...tonight I cut out the pieces for step 4 and 5...finally comitted to my fabrics....took the easy way out and chose similar colors to Bonnie's, so what the hey! Why do I have to be original when those colors were good choices? (Honestly, it seemed safe.) And they were in my stash and didn't have any other purpose assigned to them. Tomorrow my quilting group meets at the library and I hope I can get both steps sewn. I'll be able to get in about 6 hours of sewing, so we shall see! I'm not sure what it would feel like to be caught up...

Looking forward to Sunday as well. Travis is coming down to do some work for me. I hope with his help we can get the yard in better shape to enjoy for the summer. I have some plants that should have been planted, but being the procrastinator that I am, they haven't been. Should be a good weekend! That's Travis in the picture above. You can also see the quilt I made for my brother, Mitch, folded on the sofa.

Step 3 done!

No picture yet, but tonight I did sit down and work on step 3 of OC. Surprise, surprise I finished it. Only 44 blocks so it wasn't too time consuming. Took about 2 hours fo cutting, sewing and pressing. Not bad. Now, I should have just proceeded onto step 4...what's the problem? I have to commit to my fabric choices! I have a stack of fabrics that I pulled to play with sitting there saying pick me, pick me! And I just can't decide. I've been reviewing the pictures of those who have gone before me and taken the plunge...And reviewing the pictures I posted eariler of the many possibilities and I haven't come to a decision yet. But I'm going to. Before Saturday when we get together to sew at the library. If I'm good I'll be able to do step 4 and 5 on Saturday. What? Be caught up before the next step is posted? What a thought!

Step 2 DONE!

Finally got back to sewing alittle Saturday and Sunday. Boy are my hours going to be low for May, it's the first time all month that I sat at the machine! (I took some cross-stitch on vacation with me, only did that one evening.) So I continued to plug away at my OC...clue 2! Seems like these took me forever, but they are done! Just lagging behind a bit...gives me an edge on planning the next step...

Back from Vacation

Cancun was lovely...sunny and hot! Just how I like it. Barb and I had a great time. Besides relaxing and having margaritas we took a tour of Chitchen Itza and Xcaret. The ruins are quite impressive! Had fun floating down the underground river at Xcaret, both of us would consider going back there when we go back. Did some snorkling at the resort and at Xcaret. Water was alittle cloudy, but not bad.

I guess I've been back 2 weeks now, but seems like the most I've accomplished is to go to work. I've got lots to do around here and I just can't seem to get too motivated. Did pull some weeds from the back yard that were taller than me. The next batch is catching up, guess I'll get them later, did I ever say I was a gardener?

Sometimes I wish I had just bought a condo...but then were would I be without my Buddy? I sure would miss his 100 lbs of love! Here he is helping me out in the sewing room. "Whatcha doing Mom? Is it time to get up and move somewhere?"

Seems like I didn't miss much with the Mariners...boy oh boy! They are continuing the loosing streak. Just can't seem to get it done. Ouch!
